Eating Disorders and Sleep Deprivation

Sleep deprivation is often an aspect of an eating disorder.  You don't want to lose consciousness. You don't want that vulnerable feeling of going into a dim twilight state that takes you into dark sleep.  It feels too much like the beginning of an anxious or terror experience.

Sleep is like food and water. We need it, but not too much and not too little. We need enough to sustain us, nourish us and keep us healthy, alert and strong.

How come no doctors ever told me sleep was part of my ED? They just gave me sleep meds. I have been scared to sleep for fear of not burning as many calories in my anorexic phase and I eat to pass out in my bulimic phase.
